Typically coaches look to their seniors for leadership and in the case of the Illinois State football team so do the players. Head coach Denver Johnson introduced the 2004 captains to the team at a squad meeting Wednesday night and all six are seniors.
Seniors Josh Chrestman, Boomer Grigsby, Mike Larson, Jeremy Melville, Antwan Oliver and Yance Vaughan were all voted into leadership roles by their peers and will represent the Redbirds for the 2004 campaign.
This is the third straight season Grigsby has served as a team captain, while the other five seniors received the honor for the first time.
The Redbirds will take the field for the first time Thursday night when they host Saint Xavier at Hancock Stadium at 7 p.m.
