Redbirds Ready for Mary Fossum Invitational

After a 41-stroke victory at the Redbird Classic the Illinois State womens golf team returns to action at the Mary Fossum Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. And that tournament will look a lot like the 2004 NCAA Central Regional at Illinois State. Host Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern, Kent State and Princeton all were guests of Illinois State just four months ago. Redbird head coach Ray Kralis likes the team hes taking to Forest Akers West Golf Course. We have a great line-up going into the tournament, everyone who is going is a veteran. So they know what is going to be needed in order to finish strong, said Kralis. Samantha Richdale, Katie Laehn, Chelsea Bach, Kalia Fuller and Ashlee Johnson comprise the Redbird lineup this weekend, with Ashlie Rose playing as an individual. With Laehns medalist 220 leading the way, all six of the Redbird placed in the top 15 individually during ISUs dominating win in last weeks Redbird Classic. Laehn is the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. Other teams in the field include Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Michigan, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Xavier. Kralis is looking forward to playing some of the top teams in the region. All the schools that we are playing are all great schools. They are all strong and have great line-ups, said Kralis. We have already proven we can compete with teams at this level and it will be a total team effort. The teams will play 36 holes starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and finish with 18 more on Sunday. ###
