The Illinois State womens tennis team was ready for its opposition in singles play at the 12th Annual Hurricane Invitational, hosted by the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. In day one of the mock-dual event, the Birds took four of the six singles matches.
Katri Miller defeated Monika Peciulionyte of Wichita State, 6-2, 6-2, while Carolyne Parent won against Texas-Arlingtons Anete Rozkalne, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Laura Gravino defeated Gretel Hach of Texas-Arlington, 6-4, 6-0, and Ashley Maxwell claimed a win against Lilliam Bou-Kheir of Oklahoma State, 6-1, 7-5.
In doubles action the Birds lost close several close matches, as the duo of Gravino and Emilie Sechaud were the only team to come up with a doubles victory. The pair defeated Jackie Richey and Maria Simmons of Wichita State, 8-6, before winning a match against Gretel Hach and Jessica Shepard of Texas-Arlington, 8-5.
The Birds return to the court Saturday at 9 a.m. for more mock-dual play at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
