Womens Tennis Falls to a Tough Tulsa Team at Tulsa Invite

After two solid days of play, the Illinois State womens tennis team struggled in the third and final day of the 12th Annual Hurricane Invitational. The Birds dropped six of seven singles matches to host school Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Elizabeth Bingier, Emilie Sechaud and Ashley Maxwell, all lost in tough three-set matches. Bingier was defeated by Carla Zabaleta after winning the first set, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, while Sechuad, who also won the first set of her match, dropped the match to Kindsay Grimes, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5. Timberly Greenley defeated Maxwell 5-7, 7-2, 6-3. Katri Miller received a defeat over Daniela Muscolino by default, due to a withdraw because of illness. Carolyne Parent was defeated by Santie Delport, 6-3, 6-2, while Laura Gravino dropped her match to Lisette Pereira, 6-2, 6-4. To round out the Redbird squad, Vronique Park-Bedard was defeated by Tiffany Smith, 6-2, 6-4. The Birds return to the court Oct. 1-3 when they travel to St. Louis, Mo. for the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships. Katri Miller, Laura Gravino and Emilie Sechaud will each look to repeat their title performances from the 2003 championship tournament. Singles Katri Miller def.
