The Illinois State womens soccer team, recorded their first tie of the season in double overtime, 0-0 against the Panthers of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee today. This is the second consecutive season that the Birds have tied the Panthers 0-0.
The Birds, 5-3-1, played a fairly evenly matched game in the first half recording six shots to the Panthers five. However, in the second half the Birds continued progressing down the field and out shot the Panthers 10-2. After 110 minutes of play the Birds defense only allowed the Panthers to take ten shots. Neither team was able to connect on a goal in the 110 minutes of action.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee came out much more aggressive than we did in the first half of play, said head coach Pete Kowall. I saw great effort from our girls and they were working hard, but its disappointing not being able to score.
Goalkeeper Andrea Shaw recorded four saves for the Birds while Wisconsin-Milwaukee goalkeeper, Kerri St. Aubin, recorded nine on the day.
We had great forward movement today and some great plays but we didnt convert on any of them for a goal, said Kowall. We had some great first and second passes close to the goal, but the third play wasnt connecting.
The Birds were given several opportunities to score in the second half but were not able to get the ball past St. Aubin in goal. Lauren Kahlenbeck tried to keep the offense alive in the second half for the Birds as she led the team with three shots on goal.
The Birds will take to the road next weekend as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind to take on the Sycamores of Indiana State on Friday Oct. 1 at 3 p.m.
