Well Rested Redbirds are Ready to Travel to Indiana

After a well deserved rest, the Illinois State womens golf team will compete in the Shootout at the Legends, in Franklin, Ind., on the par 72 Legends of Indiana Golf Course beginning Monday morning. The field consists of 12 teams, including defending champions Kent State, Illinois, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Indiana. Other teams include Eastern Michigan, Toledo and Campbell. Head coach Ray Kralis is excited for this tournament because the Birds are well-rested and ready to go. With having the weekend off ,weve had time to turn some of our weaknesses into strengths, said Kralis. Because we have seen and played well against many of these teams, I am expecting a competitive tournament. If we go out and play the golf we are capable of playing, we will be competing for the title on Tuesday. This tournament will allow the Redbirds to face some teams they saw at their last tournament, as well at some teams that they competed against in the 2004 NCAA Regional. A few team members have been sick this week, but coach Kralis feels the team has enough depth to have strong tournament. There are six redbirds playing, but only four of those six scores will count. The tournament is set to tee off Monday Oct. 4th at 8 a.m. with the final round on Tuesday Oct. 5th at 8 a.m. On the first day of competition a 36-hole format will be used, and 18 holes will be played on the final day. ###
