Looking to pick up the first win of the season, the Illinois State gymnastics team hosts the Red Hawks of Southeast Missouri State, Saturday, January 15.
The Birds first conference match-up of the season will be held in Horton Field House and is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Coming off last weekends losses to Illinois and Central Michigan, the Redbirds anticipate strong competition from SEMO, who returned eight veterans and welcomed six newcomers to their 2005 team. Saturdays meet will be the first of the season for the Red Hawks. The two squads met in three meets last year, with Southeast coming out ahead in each outing.
Illinois State head coach Kristin Montero is looking forward to the first conference meet.
Illinois State gymnastics has a lot to prove, said Montero. We are eager to show how far we have come from last season. Having one meet under our belt will certainly show this weekend. A lot of nerves and first time jitters have been worked out. I expect to have a great competition and start building some momentum for the remainder of the season.
