Gymnasts To Ohio State, Face No. 5 Oklahoma

Traveling to Columbus, Ohio for Saturdays meet against host school Ohio State and Oklahoma, the Illinois State gymnastics team hopes to build on improvements made in the Birds fourth place finish at the Cardinal Classic on January 21. The tri-meet will begin at 7 p.m. EST and will he held at the Jenison Field House. The Redbirds posted their first win of the season, placing fourth at the five-team meet, on January 21, edging out Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 190.275-185.600. Illinois State is currently 1-6 overall, 0-1 in the Midwest Independent Conference. Serving as this weekends competition, Ohio State is at 1-3 overall, coming off a 194.775-194.325 loss to No. 11 Michigan State on Saturday, January 22. After besting Kent State 194.800-188.475, the Sooners are currently ranked fifth, boast an undefeated 5-0 record. Illinois State head coach Kristin Montero is excited about this weekends competition, hoping the team can use last weekends win as a confidence booster. I am very excited about the improvements in our performance this past weekend, said Montero. I think the team did a wonderful job of coming together and stepping up. Saturdays competition against Ohio State and Oklahoma will be a big meet for our program. As this team gets more comfortable with competing each weekend, I expect big things from the Redbirds. ###
