Several Redbird gymnasts notched season-high scores at Saturdays triangular meet at St. Johns Arena, but it wasnt enough for Illinois State as they finished third behind No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 21 Ohio State.
Freshman Carolina Posada competed on three events, posting season-high scores on two. She finished with a 9.625 on the vault, claiming the top spot for the Birds, placing 11th overall. Posada then carded a 9.650 on the uneven bars, once again taking the eleventh spot, finishing behind fellow Redbird Anne Fjordholm.
Fjordholm scored a season-high of her own on the bars, a 9.675, taking eighth place at the tri-meet. The sophomore went on to card another season-high on the balance beam, a 9.725, claiming the top spot for the Redbirds and placing 11th in the overall competition.
Other top finishers for the Redbirds were Lauren Strnad, who scored a 9.700 on the balance beam, a season-high for the junior. Also, Megan Goetting placed eighth on the floor exercise with her score of 9.725.
The Redbirds finished in third with a team score of 188.625. Oklahoma took home first-place honors, turning in a 195.900, while host school Ohio State finished second (194.775).
Illinois State, now 1-8, 0-1, will travel to Illinois, Saturday February 5, to take on the Fighting Illini and the Flames of Illinois-Chicago, in a triangular meet set to start at 7 p.m.
