Redbirds Sit in 11th after Day One

Oct. 16, 2005

ROGERS, Ark. - Samantha Richdale birdied four holes for a one over par 73 round one score at the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational in Rogers, Ark. Tied for eighth place, Richdale led Illinois State to an 11th place day one finish. Assistant coach Pina Gentile felt Richdale put out a great round.

"Great round by Sam," said Gentile. "It was definitely a score that we needed."

Following Richdale's lead and tied for 51st place is junior Chelsea Bach with a 79, freshman Kaitlin Troop sits tied for 60 with 80, senior Ashlie Rose is tied for 67th with 81 and tied for 75th place is junior Hilary Anderson with an 18-hole score of 83. With a three day, 18-hole per day format, the Redbirds will head out tomorrow looking to rebound for a solid day two finish. Gentile is looking for improvement in tomorrow's game.

"As I look at the day, we didn't play as well as we'd like to," said Gentile. "We shot a 313 and currently sit in 11th place, but as we look to tomorrow and the next couple of days we want to go out and play the kind of golf we are capable of."

Host Arkansas leads the tournament after day one with 291. Nebraska sits in second with 298, Notre Dame in third with 299 and Augusta State and Kansas tied for fourth with 303. One stroke behind third is Iowa and Southern Mississippi tied for sixth. In eighth place is Kansas with 306, ninth is Wisconsin with 307, and only two strokes in front of ISU is Kentucky with a 311.

Tee times will vary starting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 17 at the par 72 Pinnacle Country Club Golf Course in Rogers, Ark.
