ROGERS, Ark. -
Moving up three places, 11 strokes and improving from yesterday, the Illinois State women's golf team sits in eighth place after day two at the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational in Rogers, Ark. Assistant coach Pina Gentile is proud of the improvement that was made.
"It was a great day," said Gentile. "I know the girls tried their best to get to where we are today. I was proud of the steps we made to really come back from yesterday."
In the Redbird line-up, Samantha Richdale, only three strokes behind first place, leads her team tied for fourth place with a two-round score of 145 (73,72). Freshman Kaitlin Troop moved up 30 places from yesterday's tie for 60th place to today's tie for 30 with 154 (80,74). Two strokes behind Troop is senior Ashlie Rose tied for 39th place with 156 (81,75). Tied for 60 with 160 (79,81) is junior Chelsea Bach and tied for 74th place with 165 (83,82) is junior Hilary Anderson. The team sits in eighth place with a two-round team score of 615 (313,302).
"Overall, to shoot a 302 was a much better round then yesterday," said Gentile. "Chelsea was having back pains in the morning and we weren't sure if she would be able to play today. For her to go out there and play in pain, and still shoot an 81to contribute to our 302--we commend her for that."
Host Arkansas continues to lead the 16-team field with an 18-hole score of 590. Kentucky is now in second place with a 602, only one stroke in front of third place Notre Dame with 603. With 606 is Iowa in fourth, University of Nebraska is in fifth with 611, and University of Kansas is in sixth place with 612. Only one stroke in front of Illinois State is Augusta State with 612 and six strokes behind ISU is Kansas State with 621.In tenth place is Wisconsin with 623. Following tenth place is Southern Mississippi, Michigan, Iowa State, Missouri State, Oral Roberts and Wichita State.
Gentile looks forward to tomorrow and has hopes of a top five finish.
"As I look to tomorrow, I would like to go out there and have a day similar to today," said Gentile. "I hope we go out tomorrow and continue to move up in the field. Another great low round would be fantastic and it would be nice to go from an 11th place day one finish to a top five finish for the tournament."
Tee times will vary starting at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18 at the par 72 Pinnacle Country Club Golf Course in Rogers, Ark.
