The swimming and diving team will begin its season at 6:30 pm Friday, October 7. They will be traveling to Notre Dame, Ind. to participate at the Dennis Start Relays hosted by Notre Dame.
"We are looking forward to a change," head coach Steve Paska said. "This will be the first chance to see the team in a competitive setting. I am also looking forward to watching the newcomers. It will be a transition for some of them who have never traveled to compete. The coaching staff and I are very excited to see the team in competition."
For the 2004-05 season Illinois State placed second in the relays and prepares to keep or improve on that placing.
"This meet will be challenging," Paska said. "They have added different teams this year to the relays including Ball State and Oakland."
The Redbirds will be competing against eight different teams at the relay making for a lengthy meet.
"They need to keep focus," Paska said. "The girls need to show that they want to race. The meet will be two to three hours long. It will be interesting to see how their involvement with the meet and their conditioning hold up throughout the night. This meet will help us differentiate who the top swimmers and divers are in each event for future meets."
