Soccer Continues Homestand, Hosts Creighton

Oct. 5, 2005

NORMAL, Ill. - Hosting the third straight home game of the season, the Illinois State women's soccer team welcomes Valley rival Creighton for a 2:30 p.m. game, Friday at Adelaide Street Field. The conference matchup will be featured live on campus radio station WZND, while fans can also tune into the match over the internet at GoRedbirds.com and www.wznd.com.

The Redbirds are 4-5-2, 0-1 in the Valley, and are coming off a 3-1 win Sunday over IPFW. Illinois State did not prevail, however, on Sept. 30 when the `Birds fell to conference foe Drake, 1-0.

Creighton boasts a 6-3-3 record on the year, though they have yet to meet a Valley opponent. The Bluejays were defeated Sunday by UNLV 4-0 in Las Vegas.

Illinois State leads the series with the `Jays, 6-4-2 and are 3-1 against them at home. Redbird head coach Pete Kowall likes these odds.

"It's always a good match with Creighton," said Kowall. "We've always had tight matches with them and they have always been exciting games which are good for the fans to watch. I don't think this one will be any different on Friday.

"After losing to Drake, we're looking for positive results at home," Kowall continued. "Creighton is a well-coached team, with talented players and they always play hard. They have a record of success and this game will be a challenge for us. We need to improve our level of play and look to come away with a win."
