Well Rested Redbirds Travel to Indiana

Oct. 6, 2005

Normal, Ill. - After a two-week break from competition, the Illinois State women's golf team will compete in the Shootout at the Legends, in Franklin, Ind., on the par 72 Legends of Indiana Golf Course beginning with 36 holes on Monday, October 10 at 8 am with a double shotgun start.

Head coach Ray Kralis is looking forward to the tournaments ahead as a new beginning.

"This is somewhat of a fresh start for us," said Kralis. "We have two great tournaments ahead of us and this is an event to jumpstart the end of the fall season."

Illinois State is one of five teams in the tournament which competed in the NCAA tournament last year. The field consists of 19 teams, including NCAA participants Kent State, Campbell, Notre Dame and Missouri, and Big 10 teams Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. Other teams attending are Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Ohio U., Ball State, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, St. John's, Louisville, Cincinnati, Rutgers and Georgetown.

"A lot of the teams we will be facing are teams we've seen in the last two tournaments," said Kralis. "It's exciting to have another opportunity against Missouri, Kent State and some of the other powerhouse teams. These teams are competitive and we will need to go in with the mindset that we are ready to break out."

Kralis is still making decisions about the Redbird line-up. But, after Samantha Richdale's first place victory last week and the subsequent week of practice, he is confident in his team.

"Sam is coming out of a victory from last week continued to show solid play during this past week of practice," said Kralis. "Hilary Anderson is going in fresh after a week of recovering from her back injury. With six players playing in the last tournament and one as an individual, everyone on the team has been exposed to quality college golf. We are planning to finish these last two tournaments with a positive note to show we are ready to enter a competitive spring season."

The tournament is set to tee off at 8 a.m. Monday Oct. 10th with the final round at 8 a.m. on Tuesday Oct. 11th. On the first day of competition a 36-hole format will be used, and 18 holes will be played on the final day.
