Redbirds Have Two Dual Meets in One Weekend

Nov. 2, 2005

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State swimming and diving team has a full weekend ahead of it. On Friday, November 4, the `Birds will be competing at Horton Pool against Western Illinois at 6 p.m. The team will then travel to Northern Iowa to compete against the Panthers on Saturday, at 2 p.m.

Head coach Steve Paska is anticipating and ready for the busy weekend.

"This will be our third consecutive week of competition," said Paska. "We have been training extremely well and everyone is excited to compete. I am looking forward to see how the team responds to swimming back to back days. Most girls will be swimming four to seven events if not more. This is going to be a full solid week of swimming."

Having consistent meets, the team has been preparing and training for its two dual meets this weekend. After Friday nights home meet the team will travel to Northern Iowa to continue the competition.

"This meet will help us gage where the Panthers are at," said Paska. "We can use this meet to see what we will be going up against at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Panther's squad has increased with new recruits, and their team has become a deeper better squad since last season."

The swimming and diving team defeated the Westerwinds (154-89), at Brophy Pool, and the Panthers (196-93), at Horton Pool, last season. The Redbirds are looking to continue last year's success this season.

"We look to come out victorious on both ends," said Paska. "We want to be able to swim as many races and have consistency through out the meets. These two meets have significant meaning in determining our Akron Invitational line up for December. Every competition will help our team down the road."
