The Illinois State swimming and diving team took its second victory of the weekend. The team beat Northern Iowa with a score of 237-63, giving the `Birds a 3-0 dual meet record.
Head coach Steve Paska was impressed with the way the team swam.
"We reached our objectives," said Paska. "There were some great performances on both Friday and Saturday. I was impressed with how the girls challenged themselves, and we improved on some things from last night. The team really competed well and they stayed focused."
Christine Steinbach won the 1000 yard freestyle, and Casey McKittrick earned a personal best in the 1000 yard freestyle. Katie Finan continued the team's success by earning a season beast in the 200 yard butterfly and by also winning the 200 individual medley. Emily Richardson was also a contributor by winning the 200 backstroke. Every member of the team contributed to the final outcome, earning another victory for Illinois State.
"I was impressed with the way the Panthers swam," Paska said. "They have a deeper team and they are much improved. There were some very close races, and the meet was good to watch. Overall we came out victorious due to team effort and now we need to keep going and prepare for our upcoming meets."
The diving team also had another stand out night including; Emily Hirt placing first in both the one-meter (262.65) and three-meter (237.50) for the second night in a row.
"The divers did much better today," said head diving coach Tom Davidson. "The team has showed consistency including Emily. Our next step is to get Emily qualified for the NCAA. Overall the team did very well, and I am very happy."
The Redbirds next meet will be at Horton Pool against Illinois on Friday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m.
