Four Illinois State Volleyball Camps in 2006

Nov. 8, 2005

Normal, Ill. - Four 2006 Illinois State University volleyball camps offer opportunity for interested girls entering grades 3 through high school. Head coach Sharon Dingman and her staff are ready to receive applications for the camps, and registration forms are available from the volleyball office in Redbird Arena, or by phone by calling (309) 438-2567.

Dingman believes that the camp experience is more than just playing volleyball.

"Our campers get to experience different coaching and learn new ways to do things," said Dingman. "Many of them experience being in a group or competing on a team where they can meet new people and form new friendships through volleyball. We also want to teach them the confidence to be able to go out and compete."

The first of the four camps is Position Camp, June 23-24, for girls entering grades 7 through high school. The camp emphasizes individual skills for setters, outside hitters, middle blockers, right-side hitters and liberos. Check in begins at 1 p.m. June 23 and check out is at 4 p.m. on June 24. Cost of the camp is $235 for residents (who stay in an ISU residence hall) and $195 for commuters. Both groups will be served meals during the camp.

The Elite/Developmental Skills Camp is July 9-12 for players entering grades 5 through high school. It emphasizes the development of skills and strategies, as well as competitive drills. The camp price is $375 for residential campers and $310 for commuting campers. Residential campers stay in an ISU residence hall. Check in begins at 2:30 p.m. July 9 and check out is at 3 p.m. July 12. Both residential and commuter campers receive meals during camp hours.

Younger and beginning players will enjoy Dreamers Night Camp July 13 and 14. This camp emphasizes the fun of playing volleyball while introducing and teaching basic skills and fundamentals. It is open to players entering grades 3 through 8 at a cost of just $75. The two sessions are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each night.

Dingman has a warm spot in her heart for the `Dreamers.'

"We named it that because want to encourage kids that age to start having dreams about the game of volleyball, and for themselves in volleyball," said Dingman. "It's time to formulate those dreams, but also to start doing what it takes to make them reality."

High school teams dreaming of a state championship can spend two days of competing in the place where their teams hope to be in November, 2006--Redbird Arena for the IHSA Championships. Two days of competition by teams is July 15-16. The first day begins with check-in at 11 a.m. and matches from 12:30-4:30 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. The final day of competition features matches from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Check out is at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $80 per player for the team camp, with a required minimum of seven players per team.
