Redbirds Add Swimmer for the 2006-07 Season

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State University head swimming coach Steve Paska added another ingredient to his winning recipe with the signing of Urbana High School senior Catharine Danenhower for the 2006-07 season. The Urbana, Ill. native, will be attending Illinois State in the fall and will be pursuing a nursing degree.

"Catharine is a key ingredient," Paska said. "She has the versatility and the capability to swim a number of different events. Her commitment and dedication to the sport shows that she is defiantly ready to compete at this level."

Danenhower, a four-time state qualifier, was voted team captain as a senior and was the sectional champ in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. She also currently holds the school records in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay, 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly. Along with her achievements in the pool Danenhower was an academic monogram recipient and a Big 12 Conference scholar- athlete.

"She is a dedicated swimmer," Paska said. "Catharine also comes from a family of swimmers. Swimming has been in her family for years. She is definitely going to be making waves for the future."

One of Danenhower's sister, Anne, currently attends Illinois State and was a former swimmer for West Virginia. In addition her brother, David, is a swimmer for Lawrence University. In the off season Danenhower also swims for Champaign County Aquachiefs year round, where she was a four-time YMCA national qualifier
