Registration Open for Redbird Softball Clinic

Dec. 16, 2005

NORMAL, Ill. - Positions are still available for the Redbird Developmental Softball Clinic on Sunday, January 15, 2006.

Illinois State head coach Melinda Fischer, one of the most successful coaches in NCAA Division I softball history, and her staff as well as current and former Redbird softball players will provide participants with instruction on pitching, hitting, bunting and specific positions. The clinic is open to softball players from second through eighth grade. No previous softball experience is required.

Players, who will be grouped according to age and skill level, must provide their own labeled equipment (gloves, bats, catcher's equipment, etc.). Check-in will begin at 9 a.m., and the clinic will conclude around 4 p.m. The registration fee of $60 includes instruction, lunch and a Redbird Softball t-shirt. The clinic store will also be available for those who wish to purchase authentic Illinois State softball apparel like t-shirts, shorts, hats, key chains, etc.

The Redbirds, who have won 10 conference championships, will compete against some of the top teams in the country again in 2006. ISU opens up its season with the Coastal Carolina Tournament, where it will face 2005 Women's College World Series participant Tennessee. Last season the Lady Vols finished third in the nation, and once again will be a force to be reckoned with behind All-American pitcher Monica Abbott.
