Birds and Flames Meet for Second Time in Two Weeks

Battling back from last weeks fourth-place finish, the Illinois State gymnastics team travels to Chicago to take on the Flames of Illinois-Chicago for a dual meet on Feb. 12. The Midwest Independent Conference rivals met last week at the Illinois Quadrangular, where Illinois-Chicago bested the Redbirds, 192.675-187.025. The Flames score was a season-high as they took third place at the meet and moved to 3-6, 2-0 on the season. Illinois State fell to 1-11, 0-2 with its fourth-place finish. Illinois State head coach Kristin Montero looks forward to Saturdays meet, seeing it as a chance for the Birds to redeem themselves. I think we should be able to better our performance last weekend in Champaign, said Montero. We have been dealing with a lot of injuries and are really looking for a few athletes to step up in the absence of others. This dual meet at UIC will be the perfect opportunity to do that, as well as to make our move in the conference race. The two-team meet, which will be held at the UIC Physical Education Building, will begin at 7 p.m. ###
