Coming off a four-meet road trip which stretched from Jan. 21 to Feb. 12, the Illinois State gymnastics team returns home Saturday, hosting Northern Illinois and Wisconsin-Whitewater for a 7 p.m. triangular meet at Horton Field House.
That trip was not kind to the Birds as they recorded nine losses during the four-meet stretch. The Redbirds most recent defeat came on Feb. 12 to the Flames of Illinois-Chicago, as Illinois State fell 193.400-190.025.
Northern Illinois sits at 2-5, coming off a fourth-place finish at New Hampshire on Feb. 12. Rounding out Saturdays competitors is Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Warhawks are 1-8 overall, falling last weekend to Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-Stout.
Illinois State head coach Kristin Montero is looking forward to being back at home for Saturdays triangular meet.
We had a successful meet at Illinois-Chicago, and we hope to improve even more upon that performance, said Montero. Everyone seems to have settled into their roles. Now, it is a matter of making each routine it's absolute best. It will be nice to see two teams that we have not competed against yet this year. We are really looking to continue the momentum from last weekend and build off of it to capture a couple wins.
