When the final day of competition concluded at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, head diving coach Carly Weiden was honored with the Valley Diving Coach of the Year award for her second consecutive season. Along with Weiden, senior diver Krystal Featherston was awarded Valley Diver of the Year.
Head swimming and diving coach
Steve Paska said Weiden definitely deserved the prestigious award.
For Carly to be honored by her peers twice with this award says a lot about her, said Paska. She has made the transition look easy along with making the divers more talented. She has led the program to two great seasons and deserves this award for her outstanding coaching of the Redbirds.
For the third consecutive year, Featherston placed first on both one-meter (2:54.25) and three-meter (4:57.85) boards at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. She will continue her season when she travels to Lafayette, Ind., to compete in the NCAA Diving Regionals at Purdue on March 11.
Weiden is proud of Featherston and her achievements she has acquired throughout the season.
Krystal is a strong and focused diver both in practice and at meets, said Weiden. It is nice to see that the Valley honored her because of her great achievements on the diving board. She is a prime example of a great student-athlete and represents Illinois State well.
Weiden and Featherston were chosen by Valley coaches based on past performances throughout the season and at the Valley Championship meet.
