The Illinois State womens tennis team faces off with Butler Friday in a 7 p.m. match at the Evergreen Racquet Club after five matches on the road. Head coach Chris Hoover is glad to be competing on the Birds home court once again, and looking forward to Friday.
Were really looking forward to getting on the court and getting to work, said Hoover. Its nice to be home for a weekend, weve been working hard and hopefully it will pay off against Butler.
The Birds will look for continued senior leadership from their No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Elizabeth Bingier and Laura Gravino, who have also been a force in recent doubles matches, pairing in the No. 2 flight. The duo has been the only bright spot in Redbird doubles play in their last two matches, a factor Hoover says the team has been concentrating on lately.
Our doubles have not been producing so far, said Hoover. Weve been concentrating on that a lot in practice this week, trying to do some drills to hopefully help us improve and get some things done in doubles. Hopefully the doubles work will pay off this weekend.
