The Illinois State gymnastics team takes to the road again, Saturday, as the squad travels to Champaign, Ill. for a quadrangular meet against host Illinois, conference rival Illinois-Chicago, and Iowa.
Coming off a third-place finish at the Ohio State Triangular, Saturday, Feb. 29, where several of the Birds posted season-high scores, Illinois State looks to this meet to boost its conference record and face solid competition.
Struggling with multiple injuries, the Redbird lineup continues to change in each meet. Head coach Kristin Montero believes this to be the source of their inconsistency to this point.
Injuries have been a big hurdle for us this season, said Montero. We cant really do anything but work through them and try to get girls healthy again.
Despite those injuries, Saturdays meet should be exciting, Montero continued. It will be our first time seeing conference foes Illinois-Chicagoour first of many match-ups. Hopefully we can come out strong and show them that we are going to be tough competition this season. I am looking for a consistent performance from the team, which will set the stage for our state and conference meets.
The Fighting Illini, whose record is 6-2, is coming off a home loss to Denver, 195.025-194.150. Illinois score, however, was a season high for the squad.
Iowa currently sits at 2-8, coming off a second place finish in Ames, Iowa. The Iowa GymHawks lost to Iowa State, but defeated Gustavus Adolphus and Hamline Friday, Jan. 28. The GymHawks had a season-high team total of 192.400.
Illinois-Chicago holds a 2-4 record, after beating Southeast Missouri State last weekend, 192.575-192.275.
The meet will be held at Huff Hall and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
