Second Meet of the Week for Redbird Gymnasts

Meeting for the second time this week, the Illinois State gymnastics team will face Illinois-Chicago as both teams travel to East Lansing Michigan to take on Michigan State. The tri-meet is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday. This will be the fourth time this season the Flames and the 'Birds square off in Midwest Independent Gymnastics action. Illinois-Chicago has been victorious in each meeting to date. Just Wednesday, the conference rivals met in Normal, Ill. for a dual meet. Illinois Chicago came in and burned the 'Birds, 194.225-190.900. Most recently the Spartans took fourth place at a quad meet, finishing behind Auburn, West Virginia and Kent State on Sunday, March 6. Illinois State head coach Kristin Montero looks forward to Saturday's meet as preparation for the two most important meets of the year, the Illinois State meet and the Conference meet. The meet at Michigan State this weekend will be important for us as a team, said Montero. I see it as a last chance to get the kinks out before we start the championship season. We are focusing on being relaxed and confident, so we can make a strong showing at the Illinois State meet, and Conference. The team has been through a lot this year with all of the injuries we've had, I would really like to see it all come together and their persistence pay off. ###
