The Illinois State womens tennis team is set to head to New Orleans March 11-20 for a sun-filled spring break. The Birds will take on the University of New Orleans, as well as Oral Roberts University, in dual matches, both being held at City Park, home of New Orleans tennis, during the trip.
The Redbirds bring a 4-5 record into the back-to-back matches, and are looking to extend their first two-match win streak of the season, following victories over Butler and Wisconsin Green-Bay. Head coach Chris Hoover is confident the Birds can compete with both teams, but unsure of exactly what to expect from the competition.
In the past both of these schools have had outstanding tennis teams, said Hoover. As far as teams weve played so far, New Orleans and Oral Roberts remind me of Butler, and I expect to have similar matches with them, as we did when we played Butler. This is really a good opportunity for us to get better, get in some good matches, and try to continue to win.
The Privateers of New Orleans bring a 6-2 record into the match, as the Birds are set to play them March 15 at noon. Oral Roberts Golden Eagles sit at 3-8 on the season, as their March 16 match with Illinois State is slated to begin at 10 a.m. Hoover is hoping his Redbirds come to the City Park courts ready to play.
Im expecting to see some good matches when we play both of these teams, said Hoover. If we can come in ready to fight, we should have the results were looking for when its over.
