World Traveling Redbirds Return To Intercollegiate Competition

Fresh off a weeklong trip to northwestern Ireland the Illinois State mens golf team heads to Turlock Calif., to compete in the 2005 Stevenson Ranch Invitational March 21-22. In what has become an annual tournament, the Birds have their best opportunity to move up in district standings. Head coach Ray Kralis is ready to return to competition, and feels his team is ready. I think our guys are ready to get back into the swing of things, Kralis said. We had a really great trip to Ireland and they are swinging the club real well right now. There will be some good competition in this tournament, and we have the opportunity to move up in the district standings. It should be a good show case of collegiate golf. The field 14 includes Boise State, Kansas State, Cal-State Stanislaus, Colorado, Denver, Drake, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, San Diego, SW Missouri State and Wichita State and Illinois State. The Redbirds will compete at the Stevenson Ranch Golf Club, one of the best courses in all of California. Golfdigest gave Stevenson Ranch a rating of 4 1/2 stars out of a possible five for its overall golfing experience. The championship layout is a 7,205-yard, par-72 configuration, and the greens feature bend grass. The Birds begin the action with 36 holes on Monday, March 21, while the final 18 holes will be played Tuesday, March 22.
