World Traveling Birds Return and Head to Saluki Invite

After a weeklong trip to Ireland, the Illinois State womens golf team heads to the Saluki Invitational, in Carbondale, Ill. on the par 72 Hickory Ridge Golf Course beginning Sunday morning. The field consists of 14 teams, including Missouri Valley opponents host Southern Illinois, Creighton, Northern Iowa, Southwest Missouri State and Wichita State. Other teams include Western Michigan, Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay State. Head coach Ray Kralis is excited and feels the Redbirds are heading into this tournament in a great position. We are playing five of the eight Valley schools, so this is going to be a statement weekend, Kralis said. We cannot show any weakness, we must go out there and dominate because most of these schools will be playing in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. The Birds enter this tournament with all eight players competing, Katie Laehn, Kaila Fuller, Ashlee Johnson, Samantha Richdale, Ashlie Rose and Chelsea Bach will all be playing for the team total. Sarah Loomis and Hillary Anderson will be playing as individuals. Kralis feels that the Redbirds are ready to compete and is anxious to see who is going to step it up in this tournament. We have a very talented team and I am looking forward to see who will step up and play some great golf, Kralis added. "Everyone is capable of playing great golf and this is the key weekend to show that. ###
