Redbirds Regroup, Host Valley Foe Indiana State

After a tough weekend in Nebraska, the Illinois State softball team looks to regroup when it hosts Indiana State for a Missouri Valley Conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Last weekend the Redbirds (20-7, 4-2) dropped their Valley series at Creighton. ISU dropped the first game, 3-1, before coming from behind to win the nightcap, 2-1. The following day the Birds suffered their first no hitter in nearly two years in a 3-0 loss to the Bluejays. In the series finale in Omaha, Illinois State was out-hit for just the seventh time this season. The Sycamores come to town on the heels of their first league win in 29 conference games dating back to last season. Freshman pitcher Darcy Wood tossed her first collegiate no hitter in a 1-0 win over SMS on March 26. Illinois State is 52-10 all-time against Indiana State under Melinda Fischer. The last losses came during the 2000 season. However, Indiana State played the Birds tough last season in Terre Haute. Illinois State won the first game, 3-0 before escaping with a 1-0 win in the nightcap. Nearly three weeks later the Redbirds compiled a season high 12 hits en route to a 7-1 victory at Redbird Softball Complex.
