Despite the top scores of the Fjordholm twins, Anne and Tove, the Illinois State gymnastics team fell to conference foe, Southeast Missouri State in a dual meet held Sunday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The Redhawks scored a 192.975 to the Redbirds 189.125 in the teams second meeting of the season. Again, the floor exercise was the high-scoring event for Illinois State. The Birds 48.150 effort on the floor was the best of the day; the squad also posted 47.350 on the vault, 46.450 on the bars, and 47.175 on the beam.
The pair had high scores on two events for the Birds, the balance beam and the floor exercise. Anne Fjordholm posted a season-best 9.775 on the beam, to be the top finisher for the squad. Additionally, the score was good enough for second place, behind SEMOs Tara Boldt, who posted a 9.800. Tove Fjordholm led the way for the Redbirds on the floor, tying a personal-best score of 9.775. This score also tied Tove Fjordholm for first place on the event, again with Boldt of Southeast.
Carolina Posada also had a quality performance for the Birds, as the sophomore carded a 9.625 on the vault. Her finish was not only the top score for the team, but also tied her previous personal and season best. Posada also competed on both the bars and the floor, turning in a 9.375 on both events.
Rounding out the Redbirds top finishers was Illinois States Erin Cunningham on the uneven bars. She carded a 9.500 on the uneven bars, the top score for the team. Cunningham tied for fourth place overall on the event.
Illinois State faces a quick turn-around in competition, as the Redbirds host another conference rival, Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday March 9. Held at Horton Field House, the dual meet will begin at 7 p.m.
