Redbirds Set for Two Mid-Week Games Before Valley Weekend

After getting swept at Wichita State over the weekend, the Illinois State baseball team is anxiously awaiting the chance to get back out on the diamond and back to its winning ways. The Birds wont have to wait long as they will take on Northern Illinois on Tuesday and Purdue on Wednesday in non-conference action at Redbird Field. ISU (12-18, 0-6) went to Wichita, Kan., over the weekend attempting to get its first win in Missouri Valley play. However the Shockers continued to give Illinois State trouble and took all three games by a combined score of 29-4. The Redbirds and Northern Illinois (8-19) met last Tuesday in DeKalb, Ill., and it was the Huskies picking up a 6-4 win. Illinois State will turn to sophomore Kitt Kopach (1-3) to stop the Redbirds current four-game losing streak on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. Illinois State will try to even up the all-time series with Purdue (9-18) on Wednesday. The Boilermakers currently lead the all-time series 11-10, but ISU pounded Purdue 14-6 last year in West Lafayette, Ind. Luke Baughman (1-2) will take to the mound at Redbird Field against Purdue, as first pitch will be at 6:00 p.m. The Redbirds will have Thursday off before beginning a crucial three-game homestand with the University of Evansville on Friday night. ###
