Redbirds Ready to Reclaim Top Spot in Valley

The Illinois State women's tennis team travels to Wichita State and Southwest Missouri State for dual matches Friday and Sunday, with the hope of extending its conference win streak, and taking its place at the top of the conference standings. Wichita State, currently undefeated (4-0) in conference play, is first up for the 'Birds with action slated to begin at 3 p.m. at 3 p.m. Sunday Illinois State will look for a win at the SMS home, SMS tennis courts, in a conference match scheduled for 10 a.m.. The Bears currently sit at 2-1 in league play. According to head coach Chris Hoover, the Redbirds are anxious to get the weekend underway and see what they're really made of. "We're excited to get this weekend underway, and hopeful we can return home with two more wins under our belt," said Hoover. "Wichita State is the last undefeated team in the league, so we're a little nervous at this point, but confident that if we can come in and play our game we'll be able to come away with a victory." "SMS is always tough competition," Hoover continued. "We're not expecting anything to be easy during this road trip. I think that this weekend will really tell a lot about this team, and show us what we're really made of." ###
