Birds Carry Momentum Into Valley Championship

Coming off a record-breaking performance at the Indian Classic two weeks ago, the Illinois State mens golf team heads to the 2005 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship at TPC at Deere Run, April 25-26. The Redbirds were picked to finish second with 71 points in the coachs poll behind Wichita State with 79 points. Behind the Birds in third sits Drake with 61 points, SMS in fourth with 54 points and SIU in fifth with 46 points. Following SIU is UNI (33), Evansville (29), Bradley (19) and Creighton (13). Head coach Ray Kralis looks to take the momentum from the Indian Classic into the conference championship. We are coming off a very strong finish in Arkansas, Kralis said. I feel really good about how our guys are playing right now. With a complete team effort we are capable of winning this tournament. There is no doubt in my mind that we can. Now it is just a matter of execution. At the Indian Classic in Jonesboro Ark., the Redbirds carded a tournament record low with a single round 275 for first place. The Birds were led by senior Kyle Vasel who tied a course record with his seven-under-par 65. The 2005 State Farm MVC Championship tees-off Monday April 25, at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
