Redbirds Set to Wrap Up Regular Season

The Illinois State womens tennis team heads to Evansville and Southern Illinois Saturday and Sunday for the last leg of the conference regular season. The Birds bring a five match win streak into the matches, as well as a 6-1 conference record to sit in a three-way tie with Indiana State and Drake atop the Missouri Valley standings. Head coach Chris Hoover is optimistic about the Redbirds final two conference matches, and happy with the teams play up to this point. Were just excited to keep playing right now, said Hoover. Were playing well, were right where we want to be at this point in the season and Im confident we can keep it going. Evansville, which currently stands at 1-10 (0-4), is up first for the Birds, with a 1 p.m. match scheduled for Saturday at the Carson Center Courts. Sunday Illinois State takes on Southern Illinois (5-10, 3-2) at the SIU Arena Tennis Courts in a 10 a.m. contest. According to Hoover, the Redbirds have a few simple goals in mind for its weekend matches. Hopefully we can keep playing as well as we have been, and go into the conference tournament with some momentum, said Hoover. Our primary focus now is to continue playing smart and playing good tennis. ###
