Illinois State golfer Samantha Richdale has been named to the 2005 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team for the second consecutive year. Also, teammate Ashlie Rose was named to the 2005 MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention.
Richdale a biochemistry major with a 3.42 GPA, helped lead her team to the 2004 and 2005 MVC team championship. With an 18-stroke victory at the 2005 State Farm Missouri Valley tournament Richdale and her team advanced to the NCAA West Golf Regional on May 5-7 in Las Cruces, N.M. Richdale played in all nine regular season tournaments and ended the season with 17 rounds in the 70s. She also had nine top 20 finishes, six top 15 finishes, four top 10 finishes and won two tournament titles.
Rose, a business administration major, has a 3.53 GPA. This is also her second time on the honorable mention team. She played in 25 tournament rounds, achieving her season low round score of 71 at the MVC championship. She had 12 rounds in the 70s, five top 15 finishes and a top 10 finish.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete is that the student-athlete must be at least sophomore and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her teams rounds or played at the MVC championship. Also, the nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.00 scale).
There were a total of 22 student-athletes nominated for womens golf scholar-athlete honor. The MVC golf media relations contacts vote for the team.
