Illinois States Kyle Vasel was one of 10 golf scholar-athletes honored on the 2005 Missouri Valley Conference Mens Golf Scholar-Athlete team.
Vasel, a senior from Greenville, was one of four players earning honorable mention status behind a six-player first team which included three repeat selections. The teams were elected by the Valleys golf media relations representatives in elections are similar to those carried on in ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American balloting.
The 2003 D.A. Weibring Endowed Scholar at Illinois State carries a 3.02 grade average majoring in marketing while his 74.00 stroke average helped the Redbirds earn the 2005 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference team championship.
Vasel and four of his teammates are preparing to play in the NCAA West Regional May 19-21 at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
