Redbird Softball to Host Camp and Clinics

The Illinois State softball team invites area youth to attend its All-Purpose Day Camp June 13-15 and the one-day pitching and hitting clinics at Redbird Softball Complex on July 11 and 12. The three-day camp, for softball players entering 2nd-8th grade, is for athletes of all skill levels. The camp will feature instruction and demonstrations on all aspects of the game. The $105 fee includes instruction, insurance and a camp t-shirt. An $80 non-refundable deposit is required with your application. Registration must be cancelled by May 30 in order to receive a refund of the $105. Substitutions are encouraged, and can be made at any time without penalty. The pitching clinic on Monday, July 11 will feature the four basic pitches: rise, drop, curve and change. Players will learn and develop these pitches as well as different pitching strategies and techniques. Pitchers must bring their own catcher in order to participate. Catchers do not have to pay to participate. At the hitting clinic on Tuesday, July 12, players will have the chance to develop and execute the fundamentals of hitting pitches at every location. They will also learn about the adjustments that may be necessary throughout the course of a game. The clinics, which are open to softball players from 7th-12th grade, are for serious players only. Instruction will consist of both intermediate and advanced techniques. Players should bring their own equipment as well as a water bottle. All personal items must be labeled appropriately. Both clinics are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost, which includes instruction, insurance and a Redbird Softball t-shirt, is $100 per clinic. T-shirts will only be made available to pitchers enrolled in the pitching clinic (not catchers). Only 20 spots are available for each clinic, so sign up now.
