Following a trail from Canada to Illinois State University golf blazed by two-time Missouri Valley Conference medalist Samantha Richdale, Kaitlin Troop has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Redbirds and brings an impressive resume with her.
Troop is from Brandon, Manitoba, which is 130 miles west of Winnepeg and about 50 miles north of the Manitoba/North Dakota boarder.
Attending Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, Troop was the 2004 Manitoba Provincial High School medalist. She also earned the individual championship at the 2004 Manitoba Provincial Junior Championships, finishing in the top 50 nationally in the Canadian National Junior Championships in 2003 and 2004.
Redbird coach
Ray Kralis, the 2005 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year, is excited about Troop joining his team. The Redbirds won back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference titles and earned consecutive NCAA Tournament bids in 2004 and 2005 behind the sterling play of Richdale, who is from Kelowna, British Columbia.
Kaitlin is a wonderful student and has tremendous upside as a golfer, said Kralis. I see her game improving significantly while competing in college. She has posted scores on both the provincial and national level and she is a proven winner.
Troop finished 14th in the 2004 Manitoba Amateur Championships and took second place in the Western Canadian Juvenile Championship.
