25 Redbirds Earn Gateway Academic Awards

Kory Andersen, Stephen Carroll, Jonathan Denley, Joe Pantoja, Dan Simnick and Matt Pezdek highlight the 25 Illinois State football players who earned selection to the 2004 Gateway Football Conference Honor Roll, as announced by the league office. Andersen, Carroll, Denley, Pantoja, Simnick and Pezdek all received the leagues Commissioners Academic Excellence Award, an honor that requires a minimum grade point average of 3.2 for the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 grade point average for the current term (Fall 2004), and participation in athletics. Freshmen are not eligible. In addition, Mike Blough, Niall Campbell, Wally Cirafesi, Stafford Davis, Janiah Downing, Alex Filin, Boomer Grigsby, Kevin Fontana, Barry Hartman, Kevin Kreger, Tyler Larick, Drew Laurenti, Jonathan Lyon, Justin Martindale, Kedric Meredith, Joe Pelizza, Antwan Oliver, Steve Statz, Joe Walkins and Sesamire Yearby were all announced as members of the leagues 2004-05 Honor Roll. The Gateway Conference Honor Roll recognizes academic achievement of football student-athletes. To qualify for the Valley Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum 3.0 grade point average for a specified term (Fall 2004), must have been a member of an athletics team, and must have a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment during the fall.
