Preseason Magazines Honor Davis, Rembert

In recent history it has been a common occurrence to have an Illinois State football player represented on preseason all-America teams, and this year is no different with senior offensive lineman Stafford Davis earning preseason first team all-America accolades from both Lindys and Street & Smiths. In addition to Davis claiming all-America honors, Illinois State running back Pierre Rembert, a transfer from Michigan, received some more preseason accolades as well when he was named Street & Smiths National Newcomer of the Year. Prior to joining ISU, Rembert rushed for 135 yards on 29 carries over two seasons with the Wolverines. He also ran for three touchdowns, which all came during the 2003 season. The 6-foot-2, 302-pound Davis has started all 34 games of his college career at left guard, but in 2005 he will open fall camp at the center position. The native of Orange Park, Fla., led the team with 140 knockdowns in 2004, including two games with over 20 knockdowns in each. He also only had three missed assignments all season. Other Gateway Football Conference players joining Davis on Lindys 2005 All-I-AA First Team were Western Kentucky offensive lineman Erik Losey and Travis Glasford, Western Illinois all-purpose back. Glasford also joined Davis on Street & Smiths Division I-AA All-America Team, along with Missouri States placekicker Jon Scifres.
