Redbird Soccer Inks Two Recruits

February 3, 2005

NORMAL, Ill. - In preparation for the 2005 women's soccer season, head coach Pete Kowall has added two new players to the roster. Megan Christiansen and Rachel Lee have each signed national letters of intent to play for the Redbirds in the 2005 season.

Christiansen, a native of Elgin, Ill., played for St. Charles North High School. During her senior season, she scored 16 goals and recorded 11 assists, helping her team to a second place finish in the Class AA State Championship. Christiansen was named to the All-Conference Academic team, All-Sectional, Chicago Sun Times, Daily Herald and Kane County Chronicle All-Area teams. Christiansen is currently a member of the Sockers FC club team. Christiansen was also a member of the 1999, 2003 and 2004 State Cup Champion teams.

Christiansen will add versatility and goal scoring to the Redbird lineup.

"Megan is a very versatile player who comes from a very good high school program," said head coach Pete Kowall. "Each club team she has played for has been very successful. She's one of those players that is very good on the ball and can create and score goals. We are really excited to get her here."

Lee hails from St. Peters, Mo., where she attended Duchense High School. In her senior season, Lee was named all-conference first team, was the Class A Co-Offensive Player of the Year, received Class A first team honors while scoring 28 goals and recording 16 assists that year. She was also named to the All-Metro third team. Lee's club team, JB Marine, won the Missouri State Cup in 2001, 2002 and 2004.

Kowall will look for Lee to play in the midfield or at the forward position for the Redbirds.

"Rachael is a very dynamic player and was a big scoring threat in high school," said Kowall. "We see Rachael playing in the midfield or as a forward for us. We are excited to have her and the championship experience that she will bring to our program. She will be a great asset to our team."
