NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's soccer team will kick off its spring soccer season with a full day of action as it travels to Purdue to take on Ball State, Dayton and club team FC Milwaukee on Sat., Feb. 11.
The first match-up for the `Birds will be against Ball State at 2:30 p.m. Then they will take on FC Milwaukee at 5:30 p.m. and close out the day with Dayton at 8:30 p.m.
Head coach Pete Kowall is looking forward to getting the spring season underway to determine where the team is at this point in time.
"This is our first competition of the spring and it's going to give us an opportunity to gauge where we are and what areas we need to work on and improve in," said Kowall.
The Redbirds will be without defender Heather Forsyth and goalkeeper Andrea Shaw for the three games Saturday as they both are rehabbing injuries. Near the end of the season, Forsyth went down with a broken leg in the game against Creighton. Shaw played in goal during the 2004 season, starting each game for the Redbirds.
"Heather and Andrea won't be playing with us this weekend, however it will be a great opportunity to see some of the other players on the field especially in the goalkeeper position. Playing a mixture of college teams and a club team will give us a chance to see other players that we haven't faced and will be a good for our players to match-up against them," Kowall said.
