LAS CRUCES, N.M. -
With the conclusion of the 2005 NCAA West Regional tournament the Illinois State women's golf team finished in 18th place, carding a three-round total of 938 (312,309,317). Despite the Redbirds finish Head Coach Ray Kralis feels that these girls fought hard and they can take a lot of positives into the 2005-06 season.
"We have no reason to hang our heads low, because we have had a great season and these girls have worked extremely hard to get to this tournament." Kralis said. "We did not have the finish we had hoped for, but we can take a lot of positives from this experience."
Junior Samantha Richdale and Ashlie Rose finished the tournament in a tie for 62nd place, each carding a 233. Behind Richdale and Rose are sophomores Chelsea Bach and Hilary Anderson who too finished in a tie, each carding a 239, leaving them in 85th place. Senior Katie Laehn finished the tournament in 98th place with a three-round total of 245. Kralis feels that these girls worked hard and competed with everything they had, but unfortunately things just did not work out as they had hoped.
"Heading into this tournament we all wanted to make the eight-team cut. However, because we wanted it so much, we may have put too much pressure on ourselves," Kralis added. "But these girls played all 54-holes and gave it everything they had and have a lot to take from this tournament."

In fifth is Oklahoma State (898), in a tie for sixth is Brigham Young and UC-Irvine (906), and Stanford comprises the eight-team cut heading to the finals (908).
