Redbirds Add Rawlins to Swim Staff

July 27, 2005

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State swimming and diving team added Angie Rawlins as the team's graduate assistant. Rawlins, a former Redbird student-athlete, will join head coach Steve Paska and head diving coach Tom Davidson for the 2005-06 season.

Rawlins holds the record at Illinois State in the 200-breaststroke; setting a time of 2:23.04. Transferring from Pacific heading into her junior year, the Chico, Calif., native traveled all the way to the Midwest for a chance to compete for a Division I program.

Rawlins made an impact as a student-athlete, and now has the opportunity to make an impact as a coach.

"I am looking forward to getting to work with the team," Rawlins said. "The current swimmers are leaders and the incoming freshmen are dedicated. I am glad to be a part of the coaching staff and I am looking forward to adding my own perspective to the staff."

Paska wanted to bring in someone that believes in the current system and is familiar with it as well.

"Angie has passion," said Paska. "She and I both believe we can do better in the water. Angie will be another strong influence in the pool and the weight room."

Rawlins and the swimming and diving team will kick off their season September 30 with the Red/White scrimmage.
