Each kicker had one attempt blocked by the same player - redshirt freshman Cameron Bateman.

    Sitting This One Out:
The Redbirds had 10 players sit out for Saturday's scrimmage. Those players included: Erik Madsen, Rafael Rice, Brandon Bradbury, Drew Kempe, Jarek Thomas, Babtunde Soyebo, Niall Campbell, William Rolle, Tom Spear, Sesamir Yearby and Chance Smith.

    Quotable:
Head coach Denver Johnson general statement on scrimmage:
"I liked it and thought we got a lot done tonight. We held some guys out because we're a little banged up right now. We played a lot of good things and saw some backs that could really help us. But we're anxious to get the team healed up after camp. We have a lot of bumps, bruises, pulls and strains to deal with. We're a little depleted right now to be honest. We just need to get the team back to full strength to get ready for Iowa State.

    Johnson on the defense:
"It's tough tonight because I'm the head coach and want both sides to do well. I think our defense is improved. (Brent) Hawkins is an outstanding player. I think Hawkins has a chance to be one of the marquee players in our conference. We're really depleted at the linebacker position right now also, but the defense did well tonight."

Johnson on the offense after the early defensive stops:
"I think the offense responded, moved the ball well and got a couple scores so it went back and forth a little. As a head coach, that's what you like to see in a scrimmage like this, that it is competitive."

On the even match-up of the scrimmage:
"I think that it encourages you a little bit that your defense can get some stops and then the offense can come back and respond. It's hard to gauge what we saw tonight because we are so depleted, but we're going to work to get back to full strength and be ready to go once the season starts."

    Johnson on what's next:
"We still have some work to do. We will take the body of film and the body of practice and break it all down and determine who our best 22 football players are and how to best use those guys."

Johnson on the injuries and lack of long-term injuries:
"It's contributed to our strength and conditioning staff and the great job they did over the summer. We're beat up, but we haven't had a serious injury that would be near a season ending injury. Coach Cutchlow and his staff did a great job and we have to thank them a lot."

    On camp overall:
"It was a great camp. We've got to heal up. We're coming out of 19 grueling practices and bump and bruises happen. We pushed these guys hard and they responded. When you're pushed like that, you can either respond negatively or you can respond positively and head in the right direction. I like this football team....this is the most fun I've had coaching in years."
