Senior Kris Wildenradt continued his strong play by shooting a even-par 71 in the third round to lead the Redbirds to a fifth-place finish at the Fairway Club Invitational. The `Birds shot a three-round team total of 899 (297,312,290), finishing five strokes ahead of Army, who had a team total of 904.
Wildenradt started the third round as the lowest Redbird scorer after posting a two-round total of 150 (75,75). Wildenradt finished with a three-round total of 221, putting him in a tie for ninth-place. Senior Chris Eddy also had a strong outing, bouncing back from a second-round score of 81 to shoot a one-under-par 70. Eddy finished the tournament in a tie for 13th with a three-round total of 223.
Assistant coach Pina Gentile believes that Wildenradt has become a consistent contributor for the team.
"He was steady throughout the tournament," said Gentile. "He has become someone we can count on to put up some low scores."
Junior Matt Miller finished the tournament in a tie for 21st after shooting a one-over-par 72 in the third round, leaving him with a three-round total of 226. Miller was followed by Senior Matt Maskel's three-round total of 229, putting Maskel tied for 30th. Freshman Ben Murphy finished the tournament with a three-round total of 241 and in a tie for 58th.
Host school Nebraska won the tournament with a three-round team total of 872, nine strokes ahead of Missouri State who finished with a three-round total of 881. The Huskers were paced by junior Brady Schnell, who finished in second-place with a three-round total of 212.
Gentile believes that the team can take some positive experiences from the tournament.
"The guys have a lot of things to be proud about," said Gentile. "They should feel encouraged because they were down and they came back. They learned that it's not over until it's over."
The Redbirds will travel to Lawrence, Kan., next week to play in the Kansas Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, September 19th and 20th.
