Anderson Named Valley Player of the Week

Sept. 14, 2005

Normal, Ill. - With rounds of 76, 75, 76 for a total of 227 at the 2005 Badger Invitational, Illinois State junior Hilary Anderson was named the first Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for the women's golf 2005-06 season. Her focus and talents led her team to a fifth place finish in a 12-team field, which featured 10 teams from the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

It is Anderson's second time earning this award and her coach, Ray Kralis, thinks the honor looks good on her.

"Hilary seems comfortable in that position," said Kralis. "I've always believed that her potential was to compete with the best players in the country, post low scores and appear at big events. When a player believes they can do it, the game comes with confidence, and as a player, Hilary stayed in the present and gave solid scores in a competitive field. She appears more confident surrounded by a great team."

Anderson's solid play was good enough for a tie for 14th place, out of 67, with players from Purdue, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Arkansas-Little Rock, and Texas Christian.

Anderson and the Redbirds return to play September 17-18 as they travel to East Lansing, Mich. to play in the Mary Fossum Invitational held at Forest Akers West Golf Course.
