COLUMBIA, Mo. -
The `Birds arrived in Missouri today and have already enjoyed success. The `Birds took victories as well as showed their best performances in the double tournaments. Head coach Chris Hoover thinks the doubles' matches are the best part in the tournament so far.
"The doubles are the highlight," said Hoover. "We had two of our double teams advance to the quarterfinals and the two doubles that did not had great matches and played well."
The pairing in doubles for the Redbirds were: Katri Miller and Véronique Parke-Bédard, Nicole Schneider and Michelle Rabinovich, Ashley Maxwell and Matea Simovic, and Carolyne Parent and Megan Rozboril.
Two out of the four double teams for the Redbirds, Miller and Bédard, and Schneider and Rabinovich went undefeated in their matches. They will be advancing to the semi finals in Saturday's tournament. Nevertheless, Hoover emphasizes how he thought all doubles played excellent.
"Carolyne and Megan played well. Even though they lost, they were impressive in their matches," said Hoover.
Hoover also believes the doubles will aid the Redbirds in their upcoming conference season in spring.
"These doubles we have are showing some great combinations we will use in conference matches which will benefit us," said Hoover.
Over all, Hoover believes that the team has improved in their performance since the Saint Louis tournament last weekend.
"Compared to the first day at the Saint Louis invite, I thought we played better today. We have definitely improved," said Hoover.
In goals set for tomorrow, Hoover would like to see pairs, Miller and Bédard, and Schneider and Rabinovich win the doubles for the Redbirds.
"We are going to be well rested tomorrow and I think that is going to help us win the doubles." Said Hoover.
Saturday will be the second day of the Missouri tournament, and matches will start at 10am. The event will then conclude on Sunday which will then determine the tournament's champions. More results of the tournament will be reported on Saturday, September 17.
