Redbirds make the Finals

Sept. 17, 2005

MUNCIE, Ind. - After the second day of competition at the Ball State Invitational, Djordje Uskokovic, Yohann Nograbat, Tim Link and Oscar Beich advanced to the finals for the Illinois State men's tennis team.

In 2002, Senior Djordje Uskokovic won the singles B Flight title at Ball State. Today, he will compete again for the title and has a chance to have the same success in the singles B Flight finals. Head coach Greg Kennett would like for him to repeat his previous acheivement.

"Djordje played well when it counted during his singles play," said Kennett.

Last year at the invite, Junior Yohann Nograbat won the singles D Flight title. This year he will be accompanied by Djordje Uskokovic to compete for the doubles B Flight title in the finals. Coach Kennett is excited to see these two play side by side Sunday.

"Yohann and Djordje survived today," said Kennett. "They played well together, not individually, but as a team."

In doubles C Flight, hometown heroes Tim Link and Oscar Beich, advanced to the finals. The two devastated their competition 8-0 and 8-4 during Saturdays play. Kennett was pleased to see Link and Beich advance to the finals.

"Tim and Oscar played an excellent match in the morning and they played pretty good this afternoon too, both of them played very well," said Kennett.

The Redbirds compete for their fifth championship in four years on Sunday.

"I am excited about the finals, it would be nice to bring home a title," said Kennett.

The men's tennis team completes the invitational on Sunday. The Redbirds have three attempts to bring home a title this year.
