`Birds prove they are the Team to Beat at Milwaukee Classic.

Sept. 23, 2005

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The `Birds started the Milwaukee Classic today earning a string of victories. The team won matches in number two and three doubles against host Marquette and won all of the single matches against UW-Green Bay.

Coach Chris Hoover is very pleased with the outcome of today's matches.

"We had a good day today," said Hoover. "Almost everyone won a singles match in the tournament and it was great to see us exceed like that."

The recent Missouri tournament was tough for the Redbirds due to the lack of victories they took home. However, the losses the team endured made the `Birds determined to enter this weekend's tournament with a strong focus to win and play with consistency.

Each player on the team contributed to the success they had today. Carolyne Parent, Matea Simovic and Katri Miller were some of those players who stood out for Hoover.

"Carolyne, Matea have been playing very well," said Hoover. "I am also really happy with how Katri has been playing; she has been keeping really focused and winning matches."

The tournament consisted of mock duals of doubles between the Redbirds and Marquette and the team also played mock duals in singles against Green Bay.

There were three sets of doubles the `Birds participated in against Marquette. The team lost in number one doubles, but came back and won all double matches in number two and three against Marquette. The Redbirds continued their winning streak in the single matches where they won all of their single matches against Green Bay.

Hoover thinks that if they keep up the momentum they had today, they can't lose.

"Tomorrow is a big day for us and I think if we keep up what we did today, we will be successful for tomorrow and for the rest of the weekend," said Hoover. "We want to bring in three big days from this tournament."

The `Birds will continue the tournament on Saturday at 9am in doubles against Dayton.
